The temperature is supposed to drop to 31° tonight, so I picked all that I could before the darkness closed in. Unfortunately, that was a little after 5:00, since we switched back to standard time this past weekend. I had picked quite heavily a couple of weeks ago when we went to St. Louis. I gave Kevin a large bag and dropped off another large bag for Fr. Rodolfo.
For me, the star of the show is the four little zucchinis I picked from the plants I sowed at the end of August. If the groundhog hadn’t trimmed them heavily early on, I probably would have had a usable crop. Next year, they need to be planted in early August.
I picked the lettuce in case it can’t handle the frost. There is still a lot in the garden, so we’ll see in the morning how hardy it is.
All peppers did extremely well this year. I will likely scale back a little bit next year.
My plan is to top off all the beds with extra soil once the garden is pulled up. I’ll get Noe and his crew to haul the soil back if the snow holds off.
