Halloween Garden Salad

Halloween salad from the garden. Arugula, black-seeded Simpson lettuce, Butter Crunch lettuce, Swiss Chard, and Husky Cherry Tomatoes.

We are a few hours away from November and the garden is still going. I looked at my records and this is not all that unusual. There is no frost in the forecast for the next week. The large tomatoes are all gone. We ate those up last week in another salad. The Husky Cherry Tomatoes that I got from Goebbert’s are doing amazing this year. This might be the last of them, but the year isn’t over yet. The greens that I planted in late August are doing well. I made a chicken salad tonight from garden greens, peppers and cherry tomatoes. I added store-bought avocados and chicken.

The peppers are still going gangbusters. The jalapenos are way hotter than last years. Kevin called today. I had given him a large bag of peppers last weekend when we were in St. Louis and he was surprised by the heat of the jalapenos. I’ll need to watch the varieties next year. The peppers are all still going strong. I took a large bag of Poblano and Jalapeno peppers and some Tomatillos to Fr. Rodolfo tonight.

The cucumbers that I planted in late august are all dead, from insects, disease or both. The zucchini was flowering this week and there are a couple little 2-inch ones on the vine. There is a good chance that we will get a couple of usable ones. There is also a nice eggplant ready to pick.
